EDU1-1101 Tertiary
Learning Skills
This course provides students with tertiary learning through
a range of learning skills acquisition. It equips students to effectively use
facilities available for research and study purposes to improve their
inter-personal academic skills, which includes critical thinking, listening,
speaking, reading, writing and the ability to extract needed information from
available resource materials/centres. This course will also provide students
with the understanding of the significance of information technology in the
societies and offers computing skills to develop confidence in the use of
computers for their own learning.
EDU1-1102 Foundation
Christian Studies 1
This course is focused on salvation history. It supports
students to acquire sufficient biblical knowledge to enrich and nurture their
faith and also enables them to teach Christian Religious Education in schools.
EDU1-1103 Foundation
Language & Literacy
This course is designed to raise awareness about children’s
attainment of first language unconsciously. Initial language starts in
children’s vernacular before or at elementary education and extends to lower
primary where bridging to English occurs. The course will also access trainee
teachers the collection of different strategies, techniques and activities in
the classrooms where literacy backgrounds and abilities are demonstrated. The
language bridging approaches will also be enhanced to meet the needs of the
children as they advance further in education.
EDU1-1104 Foundation
Mathematics
This course is a foundation mathematics course aimed at
establishing and consolidating students’ background knowledge in order to
provide essential mathematics required for classroom teaching. The course will
focus in areas of basic skills, problem solving, investigations and spatial
relationships.
EDU1-1205 Beginning
Teaching
This course has
two major components. The first part of the course introduces to the students
the basic pre-instructional and instructional skills important to effective
teaching and learning. It seeks to foster in students an informed approach and
selection of appropriate skills needed to organize the learning, formulation of
behavioral objectives, identifying the main parts of a lesson and employment of
appropriate skills to facilitate learning.
The second
component introduces to students the various teaching strategies employed in
teaching and learning situations. It provides information and guidance to
integrate appropriate concepts and skills studied above and the strategies such
as teacher centered, student centered individualized teaching, role play,
guided discovery and other advanced strategies such as exploration, advanced
questioning and advanced explanation in order to make teaching and learning reflective
and effective.
EDU1-1206 Foundation
Science
The course provides students with fundamental concepts of
science which supports teaching and learning in primary schools. It aims to
develop appropriate scientific knowledge, skills and attitudes to effectively
facilitate and implement primary science curriculum. Required areas of study
are working scientifically, living things, science in the home and earth and
beyond.
EDU1-1207 Foundation
Arts
This course provides students with basic knowledge and
skills involved in the three streams of Arts (Visual arts, Performing Arts and
Music). The course nurtures the development of positive attitudes to the
appreciation of arts and supports students to integrate cultural values in to
teaching and learning in Primary classrooms.
EDU1-1208 Foundation
Christian Studies 2
This course enables students to integrate biblical knowledge
gained in Christian Studies 1 with Lutheran Doctrines such as the Trinity, the
Holy Sacraments, sin and Justification by faith so that they establish stronger
foundation for Lutheran doctrinal practices.
The course will also enable the student teachers to employ
the knowledge, skills and attitudes attained to their teaching and learning
environment in Primary Schools.
