EDU4-3103             Comparative Education

This course is designed to give the students the opportunity to make comparison of educational systems of several selected countries, examining the total national expenditure of education, enrollments in level of education, birth rates, and literacy rates, policies governing the operational functions of these systems in line with the social, economic and political context within the underlying principles of these systems. The main purpose for this kind of approach is to expose students to a number of different alternatives and systems of education so that students can explore what is best for the PNG education system.

 

EDU2-3104             Language Teaching & Learning

This course provides students with a scope of traditional approaches, strategies and activities that will be utilized in primary classroom context where there is a mixture of literacy backgrounds competencies. How ever emphasis for this course will be on upper-primary in meeting the needs of the children as they move forward through their education. The techniques, strategies and activities are established on requirements contained in the upper-primary language syllabi and teachers’ guides.

 

EDU2-3105             Arts Teaching & Learning

The Arts Teaching and Learning unit offer students in-depth knowledge and skills within the three strands covered in the Foundation Studies. The Teaching and Learning Unit also encompass teaching methods in arts and programming with an appreciation of positive educational values and attitudes. In completion of the Unit will enable students’ appreciation of PNG culture and values at Primary level. 

 

EDU3-3103             Theories of Learning

This course is designed to give students the opportunity to discover a wide rage of theories and beliefs about teaching and learning. It focuses on how children learn and students will consider both the cognitive and behavioral frameworks of the learning process. In addition they will examine and conceptualize both cognitive development and the fundamental learning principles. Considerable emphasis will be placed on pupil as an individual and that physical and other classroom interaction properties can affect his / her performance. Hence the social and the cultural factors can also influence the learning process. 

 

EDU5-3102             School experience 3 (Two weeks teaching)

This is the second round of school experience session students will go through. The emphasis   will be on application of teaching kills learnt in various teaching and learning courses both at the Professional Studies and subject specifics. Reflective teaching practices and observations will made during this round of school experience in an attempt to enable students to develop confidence and further add and strengthen their repertoire of teaching   skills and methodology. Students will teach a number of lesions during this two weeks outing. 

 

EDU2-3206             Social & Environmental Studies Teaching & Learning

This unit basically introduces concepts on how to appreciate and prepare students to plan and teach Social and Environmental studies. Understanding of peoples and their social needs and wants reflects the environment they live in is paramount. People’s demand for the environment is high and this activity leads to environmental change. Student will learn the processes which shape the social, natural, and cultural environment. Topics include geographical skills, maps and mapping, land use and settlement, environmental issues. Causes and effects of Global warming, culture and life styles, natural resources, sustainable development and resource management will also be covered. 

 

EDU4-3204             Christian Studies 3

This course focuses on the molding of Christian teachers. It enables students to be Christian teachers and to see their role as Christian leaders in the classroom, the school and the community.


EDU3-3204             Process of Assessment

This course will support students to gain an understanding of the process skills and types of assessment administered in the classroom. The course will enable students to develop skills that are critical to the development of effective assessment practices such as checklist, rating scales and anecdotal records by creating challenging and positive learning environment. The course is designed to support the National Education Policy on outcomes based assessments.
