London England Meetings

The LUPNG delegation met with the International Cocoa organization.  Dr. Jean-Marc Anga made a presentation regarding the Cocoa industry with an emphasis on grassroots cocoa producers.  The International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) is a global organization, composed of both cocoa producing and cocoa consuming countries.  The organization promotes sustainable cocoa production and consumption and includes the improvement of knowledge available on cocoa resources in producing countries and the education of the public regarding the health and nutritional attributes of cocoa.

It was noted that the education of small cocoa producers in Papua New Guinea could also be included in the agribusiness curriculum of the Lutheran University and the delegation was advised in response to questions from Mr. Pato that the LUPNG put a proposal to the ICCO to consider how it may assist LUPNG.

Booker Tate International – Agribusiness Consulting Company

The delegation was during the day given a tour of London by representatives of Booker Tate International, an international British Agribusiness Management Consulting Company that had previously provided management services to Ramu Sugar Limited in the Madang Province. It is presently providing similar services to the Mainland Holdings Group of Companies (MHLG) based at Lae, Morobe Province.
The Chairman. Mr. Pato briefed the Managing Director of Booker Tate, Mr. Roger Speddy and Mr. Peter Smith, a director of MHLG at a luncheon provided by the company for the delegation. After briefing Mr. Speddy and Mr. Smith about the delegations travel to the USA and Germany, Mr. Speddy responded to the delegation that Booker Tate was committed to assisting the people of PNG and particularly those persons resident in the Morobe and Oro provinces by provisions of some technical resources support to LUPNG which may however be restricted to the company’s area of expertise. LUPNG was asked to notify its requirements to Booker Tate upon its return to the country.
